    ELKINS PUBLIC LIBRARY Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes
    Tuesday, August 15, 2020
    I. The meeting was called to order at 1:40 pm by Board President Eve Owens. Also present were members Kathie Battenfield, David Harrelson, MaryJo Smith, Paulette Tate, and
    City Council member Matt Francis. Due to COVID-19, this meeting was conducted on Zoom.

    Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the meeting on January 21, 2020 were approved – Motion to approve by Mary Jo Smith and seconded by David Harrelson, approved unanimously.

    III.  Reports
    A. Friends of the Library: No report. Loads of books waiting for the book sale. The possibility of having the sale at the Community Center, for purposes of social distancing, was discussed.
    B. City Council: Matt Francis reported on the City Council meetings which are being held in the Community Center for social distancing. Not a lot to report.
    The City has received a grant for a new pavilion in the park. Sidewalk and trail grants are in the works by the Parks Committee. All races for the City Council this year are unopposed.

    IV. Elkins Library

    A. Statistics: Statistics are way down because of COVID-19. Starting to go up with curbside service – limit of 5 items.
    B. Financials: The budget was discussed. The amount of money most affected is what we receive from the State, but it shouldn’t be much.
    Programs: Everything was canceled because of COVID-19.
    1. SRP – We had grants and performers, but everything had to be canceled, The reading online program was not successful. Fall Storytime – Fall programs will be 100% virtual and will start the week after Labor Day. We do need a new laptop. Robotics – This will also be all virtual. We have kits for kids that can be checked out. Laptops will be purchased for high schoolers, we will have an information session in September. Small Business Classes – We have 4 scheduled – 3 presenters will be virtual, 1 cannot do virtual.
    VIII. Next Meeting Dates
    A. September 8, 2020, 6:15 walk-through, meeting at 6:30 (bylaws).
    B. October/November budget meeting will be set at the September meeting.
    IX. David Harrelson made a motion that we adjourn at 3:20 pm. MaryJo Smith seconded. Passed unanimously.
