AN ORDINANCE LEVYING A TAX ON THE REAL AND PERSONAL PROPERTY WITHIN THE City OF ELKINS ARKANSAS FOR THE YEAR 2008, FIXING THE RATE THEREOF AT 5 MILES, AND CERTIFYING THE SAME TO THE COUNTY CLERK OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY TO EXIST.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF ELKINS, ARKANSAS, Section 1: That a tax is hereby levied on the real and personal property within the City of Elkins, Arkansas, for the year 2008, to be collected in 2009, at the rate of 5 mils. Section 2: That the real and personal property tax so levied and the rates provided therefore are hereby certified to the Clerk of Washington County, Arkansas, to be placed in the tax book by the County Clerk and collected in the same manner that the county and school district taxes are collected. Section 3: It is hereby declared and determined that all revenues received from 1 mil of herein above levied tax should be and hereby is dedicated to funding the Elkins’ Fireman’s Relief and Pension Fund. Section 4: The City Recorder/Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed to file certified copies of this ordinance in the office of the County Recorder, County Clerk, County Assessor, and the County Tax Collector for Washington County, Arkansas. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF ELKINS, ARKANSAS THAT immediate passage and implementation of this Ordinance is necessary for the efficient administration of City business and an emergency is hereby declared, and therefore, this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval PASSED AND APPROVED this 20TH day of October, 2008
